This is exactly why we should let racist politicians be a part of debates as often as they want to. Or in the words of Zun Tzu – “Given enough rope, the enemy will frequently strangle himself.”
I’m coming back to London on the 30th and will stay for a week this time. Expect a little bit of BNP-bashing. Also playing Dublin, Galway and Amsterdam in december. More info about that shortly.
Nick Griffin var ju ensam mot hela panelen och publiken, skulle vilja någon annan politiker klara den diskussionen.. Jag tycker Nick Griffin klarade sig galant.
Fundamentally I do believe you’re right. However I am concerned about the nationalism – or populism – that’s sweeping over Europe. I mean, look at Denmark and what’s happening there. And the SD party in Sweden that’s gaining more and more votes.
The rethoric of the populism is what’s my concern. I mean claiming that Churchill would have been representing BNP is disgusting!
The thing is that Nick Griffin did quite well in this debate, and that’s why many supporters of nationalistic ideas will vote for him, because he’s a nice man in a nice suit and he doesn’t get agressive when being attacked.
I fear Nick Griffin and Pia Kjærsgaard, but most of all I fear the liberal – and leftwing – politicians who – out of simple need – adopts the messages that the nationalist parties have and make them their own. As in Denmark.
Could it happen in Sweden? Yes, it could and it will.
Cheers,
Asta
